Dealing with Cellulite

About 90 percent of women have some form of cellulite. It’s safe to say that most of them wish they knew how to get rid of it. Medical science has yet to find a cure, but there are definite ways to work at diminishing it and preventing new areas of cellulite. First let’s look at what exactly cellulite is and it’s causes.

What is Cellulite

In fatty areas of the body, it is a bumpy or dimpling effect under the skin. Sometimes it is referred to as cottage cheese, because it can give the same appearance. It most often develops in the thigh and buttock areas. This happens when fat cells expand beyond the capacity of the natural elastic fiber compartments, causing an uneven bulging in the skin.

This problem of cellulite is primarily limited to women. Medical science feels that it may also be a problem that is associated with the hormone, estrogen. It is also believed that an unhealthful diet and lack of exercise contribute to the problem. Other factors may include smoking, certain medications, crash dieting and not getting enough water.

Diminishing and Preventing Cellulite

Exercise and diet are the best ways to diminish and prevent further effects of cellulite. Walking is probably the easiest exercise to incorporate into your routine. Park your car at the back of the parking lot and walk to your office. Take a ten minute walk during your lunch hour, increasing it a little each week.

Start your new diet with a home packed lunch instead of fast food. A healthy sandwich with cut, raw vegetables and a piece of fruit is perfect. Grab a bottle of water, instead of a soda. In fact, keep a water at your desk to sip on during the day. Overall, reduce sugars and junk food by trading them in for healthier choices.
